Demineralized Bone Matrix Strips
Medicine's ability to repair tendon injuries is being limited by biological factors now. Our anchors and techniques have reduced our failure rate significantly, but we still have failures.
Studies have shown that tendon-to-bone healing and osseus ingrowth would be improved with an increase in the strength of the interface. And further studies have shown that demineralized bone matrix (DBM) enhances tendon-bone healing and may reduce high failure rates (5-50%) associated with rotator cuff repair.
We now have the ability to arthroscopically place DBM into our rotator cuff repairs, potentially strengthening our repairs and reducing the healing time.
